Confindustria believes in the potential of hydrogen and has clarified the five lines of action needed to develop a market in Italy and Europe: Classification, Certification, Regulation, Simplification and Support.
Firstly, it is essential to clearly define the different types of hydrogen according to their production methods and associated emissions, borrowing the classification contained in the European Hydrogen Strategy at national level.
Linked to classification is the carrier certification process, which is crucial to avoid constraints on the development of the hydrogen market and the flexibility services it can offer to counter ovegeneration.
Proper regulation will also have to allow configurations based on economic efficiency considerations, related to the need to promote the efficient use of electricity generation and infrastructure, as well as exploiting the benefits of economies of scale and savings in transmission costs.
The simplification of authorisation processes cuts across the entire energy sector and the Preliminary Guidelines of the National Hydrogen Strategy highlight it as one of the crucial nodes.
Finally, it is clear how important it is, in the current market context, to provide support mechanisms for hydrogen, from the point of view of carrier supply, final demand and the technology chain.
