For Confindustria, the energy transition represents a process of decarbonisation of production and consumption that must take place by ensuring the permanence of an industrial and productive fabric in our country. For this reason, it is essential to investigate those technological solutions that are able to respond to the energy trilemmadecarbonisation; cost competitiveness; security and independence

Electricity prices are extremely high and in 2024 the price gap between Italy and other EU countries has reached record levels. It is therefore necessary to take action to ensure a level playing field for manufacturing sectors across Europe and avoid imbalances in the Single Market. To do this we need short-, medium- and long-term measures, including the evolution of our energy mix.

We believe it is necessary reconciling all energy sourceswith a view to full technological neutrality that looks towards competitiveness and the full exploitation of our infrastructure assets. In this scenario nuclear fission energy is regaining a role in the political debatewith EU and non-EU countries continuing to rely on this energy source.

Confindustria considers the fundamental electronuclear option to achieve the EU's decarbonisation targets to 2050with the commitment to achieve an economic and productive system "Climate Neutral.

We believe it is incumbent on us to carefully study the opportunities offered by nuclear power for greater stability in energy prices, prospects for industrial growth and employment, the reduction of our energy dependence on foreign countries in a context of increasing geopolitical tensions, and the achievement of the continent's ambitious energy transition targets. In the coming months we will produce a study in cooperation with ENEA that can provide input on the opportunities offered by nuclear power, and we intend to set up a permanent observatory in Confindustria that can gather all the information and perspectives related also to the production chain to accompany the debate with objectivity, transparency and scientificity.
