'On the Brenner issue, Austrian policy will necessarily have to compromise. Europe and trade between EU countries cannot be paralysed. It is no longer just an Italian or a Tyrolean problem, but must be read from a European perspective. So much so that there is a joint document signed by Confindustria Alto Adige, the Bavarian Economic Association and the Association of Tyrolean Industrialists that has strategic value for fluidifying the passage of goods and people'. Thus Leopoldo Destro, Delegate of the President of Confindustria for Transport, Logistics and the Tourism Industry, in an interview with Nem.

Destro emphasised how the transport system is a strategic lever for growth andas Mario Draghi also pointed out, for the competitiveness of the EU and Italy. So "if we want to give full implementation of the single market requires transport to be part of one strong, multimodal and integrated system. Only in this way can we create resilient supply chains. And it is equally necessary for goods to have certain transport and delivery times.

The Delegate of the President of Confindustria reiterated that can no longer be just a local, Italian or Austrian problem, but must be solved "from a European perspective. This no longer works and there is the will to find a solution in the near future until the completion of the Base Tunnel, an extraordinary 65 km-long tunnel from Fortezza to Innsbruck that will reduce the journey time of the 70% for goods and passengers. It will also bring interesting developments to the ports of Venice and Trieste, and will be strategic for supplies also in the perspective of reconstruction in Ukraine, thanks to the Mediterranean corridor'. But until then 'we cannot continue to paralyse Europe and the interchange between countries, as the Brenner is one of the 9 strategic TenT corridors.  There must be a common-sense and unified agreement without penalising the transport flow. The dialogue is alive and I trust that a solution will be found".

Finally, on the manoeuvre, Destro showed appreciation for the focus on public debt, calling the premium ires 'a clear signal for investment'. But, as President Orsini said 'we need a three-year industrial policy plan without running after every budget law".
