Business Models for the Use of H2 and the development of the supply chain in Italy is the study promoted by Confindustria and ANIMA (Confindustria Meccanica Varia) in order to present an overview of the current Italian situation regarding therenewable hydrogenin order to highlight its criticalities, benefits and provide concrete support to the Italian institutions.

With the study, Confindustria wanted to resume the path it had started in 2020 with a different method, so as to develop a new approach starting from Concrete Business Models (BM) based on real cases for:

  • provide a methodological approach to project development and actively contribute to the development of the hydrogen supply chain and market in Italy;
  • test in a bottom-up logic whether the current (national and European) regulatory framework built for hydrogen development is effective in doing so;
  • highlight the main lines of action in terms of energy policy guidelines and regulatory interventions on the market, with reference to both the national and European frameworks.

The sectors chosen for the implementation of BM are:

- Industrial - Combustion / Process Heatwith focus on sectors hard-to-abate ceramics and glass;

- Industrial - Feedstockwith focus on sectors hard-to-abate of refining e biorefining;

- Transport / Logistics;

 - Residential.

To these, an additional chapter is added in the study dedicated to the future of the Italian Gas Transmission Networkwith a focus on projects such as the Backbone and the SoutH2Corridorwhich will be indispensable to ensure Italy's centrality in the international hydrogen scene, similar to the Mattei Plan for gas.

Attached is the comprehensive study.
